Key cutting for homes and businesses — what really matters

The most common call we get is not “make me a key because it is convenient” — it is “I am left without my only key.” The difference between those two situations is a single spare key cut in time, and a few minutes of work instead of a whole day of stress. Across three generations of this trade we have learned that the real cost is never the copy of a key, but what happens when you do not have one.

The types of keys we cut for homes and premises

Keys have long differed by much more than their shape. For residential and business premises we most often work with three groups, and for each it matters that the original is clean and unworn when we cut the copy.

• Classic cut keys — standard cylinder locks on apartments and houses.
• Keys with a control card (security profiles) — a copy is cut only with the owner’s card, which prevents unauthorised duplication.
• Keys for business premises and systems — where a single master key opens several locks by a precisely defined logic.

When is the right time to cut a spare key

The answer is simple: while you still hold the original and the lock is in good order. A copy cut from a clean, unworn key works flawlessly for years. A copy cut from an already worn key inherits all of its flaws — and that is where the “key that is hard to turn” problems begin.

Advice from practice: a new apartment, a new business or a change of tenants is the ideal moment to make at least one spare set and to know who holds it. It is five minutes of work that saves you a whole unpleasant day.

The master-key system — how it simplifies business

Businesses with several rooms often do not want a bunch of ten keys for each employee. A master-key system solves this with access logic: the owner holds one key that opens everything, while individual employees open only their own rooms. When someone leaves the company, only their cylinder is changed, not the whole lock on every entrance.

For an ordinary copy the original key is enough. For security profiles, bring the control card you received with the lock — without it we cannot (and must not) cut a copy, precisely because that protection exists for a reason.
